Highland Gold Mining Limited (“Highland Gold”, or the “Company”) provides an update concerning the accident at its Darasun mine in Chita region (Eastern Siberia).

As of 1430hr Moscow time, the bodies of 11 miners have been brought to the surface at Darasun mine and all have been identified.

A fire had broken out at about 07h00 (Moscow time) in the underground part of the Central shaft at the Darasun mining complex in Chita, South Eastern Siberia. The exact cause of the fire has yet to be established but according to first reports, it was caused by welding works being undertaken in the shaft.

Highland Gold Mining Limited (“Highland Gold”, or the “Company”) announces an update on its trading for the half year ended 30 June 2006. Financial results for the period will be released on 21 September 2006.

In April, 2006, we announced with our final results and in our Annual Report of 31 December, 2005, that Barrick had confirmed its intention to exercise its early participation rights in respect of three deposits, Sovinoye, Malo-Fedorovskoye & Belaya Gora (the "Deposits"), under the Highland / Barrick Participation Agreement entered into in early 2004.
